I hope you enjoyed the first two articles in this 5 part series which introduces my journey through transformation. If you need a refresher, you can find Part 1 here and Part 2 here. Thank you for stopping by and reading my expedition of life. Remember to share, like and comment on the post.

In December of 2011 I had gone to my hairdresser who also happens to be Ismaili. We were conversing just like any other visit, but what was different was that I never knew today that, that conversation would be the opening or beginning to my transformation. Our conversation was about Tasbihs and how one of her non Ismaili friends was given a Tasbih to wear. At this point I was taken aback by that statement only because with my religious and conservative upbringing sharing our values was considered taboo. I found that it also bothered me a lot especially considering that I have always had a liberal outtake on life.

The conversation with my hairdresser really stuck with me for a while and through my daily yoga and meditation practice that conversation came to light and gave me a clearer and new found understanding for the Tasbih. After one of my yoga classes, my instructor noticed a Tasbih on my hand asked me about it. At that point, the power of conversation took place. Still very hesitant to share with her what a Tasbih is, something inside of me kept saying be honest and genuine with her. I’m glad I listened to my intuition or gut feeling because today I am able to see that the Tasbih is not only a religious and spiritual symbol; but also, a way to bring everyone together from all areas of the universe. Most importantly the Tasbih has been a tool for myself to become a better ambassador of the Ismaili Community and Islam, by imparting knowledge about the true ways of Islam (a faith of: intellect, convenience, giving of one’s time, humanity, education, pluralism, education, peace and unity).

As Christmas rolled around that year, I decided to really test the new found theory of everyone being one and the yoga studio was the best place to start. I gave my favourite instructors one of my Tasbihs that I created and each one loved them and were so grateful for the authentic nature of the Tasbih. Each one of them accepted the Tasbih for what it is.

2012 for me was really opening up to prospective clients as I would make sales here and there to non Ismailis and by the end of 2012 I had attained the thinkable, I had more and more non Ismaili clients buying my Tasbihs. My yoga instructor became a brand ambassador for the Tasbihs. I felt truly blessed to be on the brink of something so huge and marvellous. I also knew that I was on journey to bliss, enlightenment, and happiness.

The orders kept coming in and new styles were continuously created and the bar rising.

Looking back, I would not have changed anything because it had been unfolding the way it was meant to unfold.

What has been your North for the year?

Fatima
